First Erlang Class Completed

Friday and Saturday we held a Erlang training class called Hands-On Erlang here at CCC. Two people came from South Carolina, several from the Triangle, and one guy from Atlanta. (What is Erlang?)

Friday was incredible. So many people working and learning. This place was realy humming! Coworkers working and programmers learning. Saturday was equally exciting. So cool to see people dedicated to learning. On a weekend even.

A GIANT thanks to Kevin Smith, Erlang Expert and way cool guy, for teaching the class. He really cares about spreading the good word about this powerful programming language. I've really enjoyed working with him these past few months getting the training ready.

Hopefully this summer sometime we'll have another session of Hands on Erlang. I'll let you know as soon as registration is open. Look for several new courses at CCC in the near future.

We're Crazy 4 Cocoa and iphones in Carrboro

in

Last night's iphone/Cocoa meetup was giant! I counted 20 people at one point. A few CCC coworkers and a bunch of guests. Pretty amazing considering it was only promoted a little bit. (By social media standards anyway.)

There was a lot of discussion about the process of getting an iphone app in the iTunes store. Plus some serious talk about the challenges of marketing your app. A bunch of good strategy and practical experiences were shared.

To keep up with crazy developers join their Facebook group called the [requires login] or friend their Twitter user . Dude I'm loving the C's!

This is the bio they wrote for the Facebook page:
The Carrboro Cocoa Consortium is an RTP based group focused on the design, development, and business of Mac OS X & Apple iPhone/iPod applications. Topics range from the exploration of all things Cocoa to the voodoo economics of the App Store. Come join us to learn, network, collaborate... and just maybe build the next killer app.

Thanks to Blake and Jeremy of 3 Cube Technologies for sponsoring this. They were hilarious and brilliant!

Game Night Meetup at CCC

in

Tuesday, February 10 we're playing board games like Monopoly, Settlers of Catan, Taboo, Cranium, and Risk. Join us! Here's the low down.

Grab your favorite board game and join us for the first Game Night Meetup!

This is a meetup for the entire Triangle area, so everyone is welcome. You're encouraged to bring friends who enjoy a fun night playing games and meeting new people.

The first Game Night Meetup will be held on Tuesday, February 10 at the Carrboro Creative Coworking space at 205 Lloyd Street, Carrboro, NC 27510.

THE SCHEDULE:
6:00 – Socializing & Snacking
7:00 – Introduction and game selection
7:10 – Let the games begin!

THE FORMAT
The space will be divided into five group areas where we'll have the following games set up:

1. Monopoly
2. Settlers of Catan
3. Taboo
4. Cranium
5. Risk

Have a favorite board game you want to play? Bring it with you (even if it's one of the ones we're providing). The game stations will change depending on the games people bring and what people want to play. Some games are faster than others, so throughout the night you're welcome to move from game to game.

Game Night Meetup is all about having fun and socializing, so you're encouraged to try games you've never played. No experience necessary.

You can RSVP on if you like. Thanks to Jeff Brenman for organizing this event.

CCC on Marketplace

in

This morning I got to start my day by listening to a wonderful story about CCC called Sharing an office can be a good thing. It was on the nationally syndicated radio show Marketplace Morning from American Public Media. Thank you WUNC for carrying this show!

The piece is by Janet Babin. She's the Marketplace innovation desk reporter based here in Chapel Hill. The State of North Carolina is so lucky to have her here. I love it when we get to show the country and the world how great this state is. Especially the technology stuff going on. Because this story is about ALL the people here at CCC. Its about the importance of community.
