TriUPA webinar - Interface Engineering with Bill Scott

in

Have you check out our events calendar lately? Lots of new events keep popping up. Here's one.

The Triangle Usability Professionals' Association aka TriUPA, will be holding a free webinar here at CCC on Monday Febuary 26 at 1pm. So if you have some time come learn about Interface Engineering. Here's more about the webinar.

Bringing Design to Life: What Every Designer Should Know about Interface Engineering (with Bill Scott)

At most companies, designers and engineers live in completely different worlds. For many designers the work of engineering is indistinguishable from magic. This unfortunately makes creating a finely crafted user experience much harder than it should be. Not knowing what is possible or proposing the impossible both hinder the synergy between design and engineering. Understanding the interface engineer's bag of tricks can go a long way to closing the gap between these two worlds. What is now possible in the browser? And what is still hard to do? In this webinar, Bill Scott—author of Designing Web Interfaces (O'Reilly)—will focus specifically on the challenges and the opportunities for DHTML-based web sites and applications. Specific topics include: visual design nuances, ins and outs of images, CSS follies, interactivity, cinematic effects, performance, accessibility, browser advancements and ways to create a common vocabulary.

Big thanks to for working with me to organize this event. There should be more in the future. :)

Brown Bag Lunches with Special Guests

in

A few weeks ago I started a every other Friday at 12:30pm lunch meetup. Its called the Brown Bag Lunch. Original right? :) Since then we've had a few small lunch meetups with great conversations. One day Raines Cohen the Coworking Coach from Berkeley, California was in town. Awesome discussion about doing things together (Coworking, cohousing, etc.) and the state of things here in North Carolina.

To jump start these informal lunches I'm inviting special guests. My hope is you'll get excited about attending and meeting these cool people. Plus I'm jazzed about showing off our community.

So far we have two special guests scheduled. On December 12 Paul Jones the Director of Ibiblio.org and a teacher at UNC-Chapel Hill will be joining us. On January 9, 2009 Nathaniel Talbott local Ruby guru and founder of Terralien, Inc. will be here. I'll remind you when these dates get closer.

Is there a special guest you'd like to meet over lunch? Please send me your suggestions and potential guests contact information.
